In the scientific field, the Dutch umcs are among the world's best. And they are the driving force behind innovation in healthcare. The umcs do this individually but also with each other. They also work closely with other scientific and social organizations at home and abroad.

In addition to their healthcare and educational functions, the umcs have a social research task. The umcs offer a unique combination of research, education and patient care. They are therefore ideally suited for the entire research chain: from fundamental exploration (for example the properties of a new virus) to patient-related research and applications in the clinic and society. And with success: in the Netherlands the umcs are responsible for 40% of the total scientific output. They thus make a major contribution to the Netherlands as a knowledge country. The CWTS analysis provides insight into this contribution.

To invest

It is more important than ever to continue investing in research and innovation. For example, in the Research and Science Fund and the sector plans, both of which contribute to a healthy and strong scientific foundation and provide peace and space for researchers and teachers.
